Hmm… If I were working on geometry problems on my sidewalk and Bill Nye stopped by, I doubt that I would have been able to play it cool! I think you’re great. Thanks for helping those kids!
Absolutely insightful! This is proof that kids do take the time and effort to learn and appreciate what science does for us in our daily lives.
I was home schooled and was only around – 4 years old when your show aired. That show really aided my troubles in science and I am very grateful for that. It means so much.
Bill, When I was going through school I just could not comprehend math. I excelled in every other subject but math. No matter how hard I studied and tried, it just would not make sense to me. My teachers were all pretty rigid in their presentations and they had no sense of enthusiasm for their subject (which I think is essential in any great teacher). I used to dread algebra, trig and calculus – BUT I LOVED geometry! I could be very flexible in how I solved my proofs, and my teachers used to praise my creativity! It was the one math subject that I felt allowed me to use my brain’s natural creativity to its fullest – and still be successful!
We should all strive to make math FUN to children so that they can experience the wonder of learning and help them to recognize that math (AND science) is pure magic!
You are a hero, and I suspect if YOU had been my math teacher in those other subjects I would have thrived!!!
Thanks!
Carolyn
Hollywood kids, I guess. If the Mythbusters had stopped by while they were shooting stuffed animals out of potato cannons, they probably would have been similarly aloof.
I would have gotten at least a picture with Bill Freaking Nye, but I’m a rube from flyover country.
I think geomeetry rules too!!!! it is the best thing in the world!!!

You are my hero Bill! I love to see kids enjoying science. They have some cool science kits (even genetics!) at Toys R Us. Way cool!

Like the chap said above, I doubt that I would have kept my cool if THE Bill Nye stopped to chat with me when I was a kid.
